Vista Tennis Lessons Tennis Tip: What racquet should I buy?

A lot of our students at Vista tennis lessons are new to the game and don’t have a racquet. We get the question asked a lot, “What racquet should I buy”? The easiest answer is, “the one with the right price!” All joking aside, the best advice we can give you is to find the racquet that fits you best. If you’re not sure which one is the best for you, have your tennis instructor give you help on which one to buy. Some of the things your tennis instructor will talk to you about when buying a racquet is head size, string pattern, grip size and weight. Typically, beginners will need a larger framed racquet that is lighter. Your grip size should be small (4 3/8) so you can control the racquet. The string pattern should be open, meaning the strings are spread apart so you can create easier power. If you are an advanced player you will want a stiff framed, heavy racquet with a closed string pattern because you have a fast swing speed. For junior tennis players all the racquets have an age requirement on them so it’s easy to figure out which one to buy. We recommend getting a new racquet every 3-5 years as the technology of racquets keep improving and will only help your game get better.
